Zaya Cocobana Rum

Zaya Cocobana is the flavored expression of Zaya rum from Trinidad and Tobago, brought to the U.S. by Infinium Spirits, which relaunched Zaya in 2020 and then added Cocobana alongside the overproof Alta Fuerza. Where the flagship Zaya Gran Reserva is a blend of rums aged up to 16 years and sold unflavored, Cocobana takes a blend of aged Caribbean rums, including rum up to 16 years old, and flavors it with cocoa, banana and spice, then bottles it at 40% ABV (80 proof). The base is column distilled from molasses and barrel aged, so the fruit and chocolate sit on a genuinely aged spirit. The producer's published notes describe a golden amber color, a nose of ripe banana, citrus, tropical fruit and spice, a palate of ripe banana, cocoa, cinnamon and black pepper, and a creamy mouthfeel with a smooth finish; Drinkhacker got flambéed banana first on the nose, called the palate sweet but approachable, and suggested dropping the Captain Morgan and using this as the go-to cola mixer.
