La Adelita Black Añejo Cristalino Tequila
La Adelita takes its name from the Adelitas, the women who fought in the Mexican Revolution. Its tequilas are made at NOM 1479 in the southern Los Altos highlands of Jalisco from 100% blue Weber agave, cooked in autoclaves, crushed on a roller mill, fermented in stainless steel without the agave fibers, and double distilled in copper pot stills, and the brand says it uses no additives. The Black Añejo Cristalino is aged 18 months in second-use American oak whiskey barrels that are re-toasted in Mexico before filling, then run through a proprietary filtration that strips out the color while keeping the barrel flavor, and it is bottled at 80 proof. Drinkhacker rated it A-, finding an unusual saltiness on the nose followed by earthy agave, rich honey and candied sweetness, vanilla and oak from the re-toasted barrels, lemon citrus, and pepper; on the palate saltiness and lime, subtle pepper, creamy vanilla, and an earthy agave finish. Cristalinos are built to drink easily, so pour this one chilled or over a large cube, or use it in a Ranch Water or añejo old fashioned where you want aged character without the color.
